It can sometimes be daunting trying to pick the perfect location for your photo-shoot, but have no fear I have come to the rescue :) Here are 4 amazing tips on finding the perfect location …
1. Pick A Place That Has Meaning
This is my number one most important rule for picking a location. You are going to look back at these pictures in weeks, months, years and wouldn’t it to be nice to not to have to say “oh remember that place we took thee photos, where was that again?” Pick a place that your will remember, like where you took the kids for their first picnic, or where daddy proposed to mommy under the willow tree :)
2. Distractions Can Take Something Away From Your Photos
Look for a place that doesn’t have a lot of distractions (i.e. lots of people, cars, too many buildings or signs or lights, etc). The bigger the space you find, the more creamy, and soft the background in your photos will be :) Like this ….
After you avoid the distractions, start looking for textures, shapes and leading lines. This can help add to the feel of the location such as barn doors, circles, or train tracks. Like so …
3. Check Out The Location At A Time Near Your Planned Shoot Time
To get the best feeling for the location you are thinking of, take a walk through at or near the time your session is scheduled for. This will give you an idea of how busy it will be, and what the light will look like.
4. Have a Backup Location Near By
While scouting out your perfect location, keep an eye out for cute indoor or covered locations near by. You never know what the weather is going to do on the day of your shoot. It could start out beautiful, with amazing light, but if it starts raining you need to have a place to duck and cover ;)
I hope those tips help with the planning :)
